Background

The DC Preservation League was launched on Earth Day in 1971, declaring from its inception that a healthy and vibrant community cannot be sustained without conscientious stewardship of its social, economic, and environmental resources. For fifty years, DCPL has been unwavering in its support for equitable and sustainable stewardship of the District of Columbia’s diverse heritage and culture.

Now, as collective concerns about climate change reach peak levels, DCPL is launching its Stewardship for Climate Action program, curated by consulting architect Carl Elefante, FAIA, FAPT, LEED AP.  Through this six-part series of half-day programs, DCPL and program participants will explore how preservation of DC’s existing building stock can help accomplish the goals set forth in the DC Climate Action Plan.
