About Annie's: Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse has been a safe space for the gay community for decades. As the story is famously told, back in the 1970’s Annie Katina noticed two gentlemen holding hands under the table at her brother’s restaurant. Annie approached them and assured, “you don’t have to hide that here” as she motioned for them to put their hands on top of the table. The restaurant was designated a DC Historic Landmark in 2021. The nomination highlighted the important social history of this venue as a meeting place for the LGBTQ+ community in DC during the mid-to late-twentieth century. You can read more about Annie’s here.
